(AWEIL) – The Government of Northern Bahr el Ghazal State has approved a fiscal resource envelope of 40.5 billion South Sudanese Pounds (SSP), equivalent to about 8.8 million US Dollars, for the 2025–2026 financial year.
The decision was reached during the Eleventh Council of Ministers meeting held on Friday, 15 August 2025, at the State Secretariat General in Aweil, chaired by Governor Simon Ober Mawut.
The budget proposal was presented by the State Minister of Finance, Planning and Investment, Peter Dut Akot. The Council endorsed the plan, which will now be submitted to the State Legislative Assembly for further debate and approval.
According to officials, the envelope outlines expected revenue and expenditure for the fiscal year, and is designed to support service delivery and state development priorities.
The Council also approved an amendment to the State Revenue Authority Act. The adjustment corrects references in the legislation that still identified the Authority by its former name under the defunct Aweil State, a technical correction aimed at aligning the law with the current administrative structure.
Officials said the approved budget framework is intended to strengthen fiscal discipline, improve accountability, and ensure that resources are allocated in a way that supports key priorities such as healthcare, education, agriculture, infrastructure and security.
The state government stressed that the budget process is an important step in ensuring transparency and the effective use of public funds. The administration signalled its commitment to open debate and legislative oversight by forwarding the resource envelope to the State Legislative Assembly.
Northern Bahr el Ghazal, like other states in South Sudan, faces ongoing economic challenges caused by inflation, limited revenue sources, and the need to rebuild basic services.
