(Pibor) – The Greater Pibor Administrative Area (GPAA) has received a donation of three vehicles from the Ask Foundation to support its public service delivery and local governance. The donation formally handed over last Friday includes two Toyota Land Cruiser Hardtop 5-door vehicles and one Land Cruiser Pickup.
ASK Foundation is an organisation founded and led by Adut Kiir Mayardit (ASK acronym), the daughter of President Salva Kiir Mayardit.
According to the office of the Chief Administrator, the vehicles will be used by the Office of the Chief Administrator, the Peace Advisor, and the Commission for Public Health and HIV & AIDS. These departments play a critical role in community development and health service delivery, and the vehicles are expected to improve mobility and responsiveness, especially in remote and hard-to-reach areas.
Speaking during the handover event, Chief Administrator Peter Guzulu Maze expressed his appreciation to the Ask Foundation for its continued support to the region. He emphasised that the vehicles would strengthen the ability of local officials to carry out field work, coordinate health programmes, and respond to emergencies more effectively.
Maze also highlighted the foundation’s ongoing contributions in health and development across the GPAA. He recalled the foundation’s quick response during recent cholera outbreaks, when it supported the region by deploying medical teams and providing vaccines to affected communities. He said this kind of timely intervention had saved lives and reinforced community trust in local institutions.
Beyond health emergencies, Maze said the Ask Foundation has consistently supported wider development efforts in the region. These include expanding access to clean water, improving schools, enhancing agriculture, and promoting peace and equality. He stated that the donation was not only helpful for government logistics but also symbolic of a growing partnership between civil society and local government actors across South Sudan.
In Greater Pibor, where poor road infrastructure and long distances challenge daily operations, reliable transport remains a major gap for government and development workers. Officials believe the new vehicles will significantly improve their ability to engage with communities, deliver essential services, and monitor ongoing projects more efficiently.
While the exact cost of the vehicles was not disclosed, market estimates for similar Toyota Land Cruiser models in South Sudan currently range from $29,000 to $37,000 per unit. This places the value of the donation between $87,000 and $111,000 USD (equivalent to approximately 15.9 million to 20.2 million South Sudanese Pounds at current rates).
The donation was acknowledged by the GPAA press unit, with officials describing the handover as a demonstration of trust and commitment by the Ask Foundation. They encouraged further collaboration between government structures and development partners in order to meet the needs of underserved communities across South Sudan.
