(SUMY REGION, UKRAINE) – A Russian drone struck a suburban train in Ukraine’s Sumy region, causing a fire in the driver’s cabin of a pusher locomotive and igniting flames in a nearby open area, Ukrainian emergency services said on Saturday.
The incident occurred during a drone attack on railway infrastructure in the northern region bordering Russia.
According to Ukraine’s State Emergency Service, the strike caused a fire inside the locomotive section used to push the train, while flames also spread to an open area close to the railway line.
Emergency crews quickly arrived at the scene and began firefighting operations despite the continuing risk of further drone strikes in the area.
Rescuers managed to extinguish the fire and stabilise the situation, officials said.
Preliminary reports indicate that there were no casualties or injuries as a result of the attack.
Ukraine’s State Emergency Service published details of the incident and confirmed that firefighters had contained the blaze shortly after the strike.
