The Security Committee of Central Equatoria State has reported a joint attack by forces from the SPLM-IO and the National Salvation Front (NAS) on Lasu Payam headquarters and Lebogo border points in Yei River County.
The incident was discussed during a weekly meeting chaired by Governor Rabi Mujung Emmanuel at the State Secretariat on Saturday, 16 August 2025.
Acting Minister of Information and Communication, Jacob Aligo Lo-Lado, confirmed to the media after the meeting that the South Sudan People’s Defense Forces (SSPDF) successfully repelled the attackers and restored control in the affected areas.
Security organs have been deployed to maintain order and facilitate the return of civilians to their homes.
While Juba County remains relatively calm, tensions are high in Yei, Morobo, and Kajo-Keji due to rebel groups posing threats to villages.
In Morobo County, residents have fled to the Democratic Republic of Congo to escape the rebels. Concerns were also raised regarding border violations by the Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF) in Kajo-Keji County and Uganda’s Yumbe District.
Around 16,000 people have been displaced by the cross-border tension, with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) providing emergency aid to those affected.
In Juba, there has been a rise in armed robberies, motorcycle thefts, and illegal land grabbing in areas designated by the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure. Security forces have been instructed to address these issues.
Reports of unidentified armed individuals along the Eastern Bank of the Nile have caused fear among locals. Security forces have been directed to ensure the safety of civilians and their property in response to these movements.
