(JUBA) – The Government of South Sudan has signed two separate memorandums of understanding with the Egyptian Alameda Healthcare Group aimed at improving healthcare delivery, training medical professionals and expanding health insurance coverage. The agreements were signed in Juba with the Ministries of Interior and Health representing South Sudan.

The first agreement, signed with the Ministry of Interior, focuses on upgrading police hospitals and improving medical services available to officers and their families. It includes a patient referral arrangement where insured individuals may access treatment in Egypt at Alameda facilities, especially for surgical operations and complex conditions not yet available in South Sudan.

The cooperation also provides training for police medical staff, the establishment of advanced outpatient clinics in Juba, and the exchange of doctors and technicians between South Sudan and Egypt to strengthen professional skills and share experiences.

The second agreement, signed with the Ministry of Health, targets the wider healthcare system in the country. It provides for the upgrading of hospital protocols, the introduction of training programmes for doctors and nurses in specialised areas such as intensive care, oncology, nephrology, and emergency medicine, and the creation of a telemedicine network. The network will link doctors in Juba directly with colleagues in Cairo, allowing real-time consultations and support in managing complicated cases.

Both memorandums are also designed to open the way for broader health insurance services. While the Ministry of Interior staff will be the first beneficiaries, the plans may extend to cover other groups of the population. Local and international insurance companies are expected to be part of these initiatives, helping provide more comprehensive coverage for citizens.

Under the partnership, South Sudanese patients referred to Egypt will have access to four Alameda hospitals, all accredited by the Joint Commission International (JCI):

Hospital Location
As-Salam International Hospital Maadi
As-Salam International Hospital New Cairo
Dar Al Fouad Hospital 6th of October City
Dar Al Fouad Hospital Nasr City

Speaking after the signing, officials expressed optimism about the impact of the agreements. A representative of Alameda Healthcare Group described the partnership as a step towards regional health integration and making advanced services available to more South Sudanese citizens.

The Minister of Health, Sarah Cleto Rial, said the collaboration will improve the country’s ability to respond to pressing health challenges while equipping South Sudanese staff with training opportunities that were previously out of reach. The Inspector General of Police noted that better health services for officers would directly contribute to operational readiness and stability within communities.

In addition to the Alameda agreements, other Egyptian health companies have recently partnered with South Sudanese institutions. The Bank of South Sudan organised a workplace health awareness session for its employees in cooperation with Andalusia Health Egypt. The programme aimed at encouraging healthier practices in office settings.
