(Juba) – The Governor of the Bank of South Sudan (BoSS), Hon. Dr Addis Ababa Othow, visited the ongoing construction site of the bank’s new Currency Centre in Juba on Thursday, June 26, 2025. He was accompanied by the First Deputy Governor, Hon. Samuel Yanga Mikaya, and the Second Deputy Governor, Hon. Rita Nyankiir Akoon.

The inspection aimed to assess the progress of the new facility, which is being built at the BoSS main branch in Juba town. The delegation met with staff members and toured several departments, including Banking Operations, the National Payment System, Information and Communication Technology (ICT), and the Currency Centre construction site.

Construction of the new Currency Centre began in 2024 and is reported to be proceeding on schedule, with completion expected later this year. Once finished, the facility will cover an area of approximately 900 square metres. It will include more than 40 offices and a secure vault designed to enhance the management of currency and other banking operations.

The secure vault will play a crucial role in strengthening the bank’s ability to store and manage cash reserves safely. This is particularly important for a country like South Sudan, which is working to stabilise its economy and ensure confidence in its financial systems.

The project is part of efforts by the Bank of South Sudan to modernise its infrastructure and improve the quality and security of financial services offered across the country. The new Currency Centre is expected to serve not only Juba but also play a central role in national currency distribution and processing.

During the site visit, the central bank leadership also met with technical staff to discuss operational needs and progress updates. The bank is aiming to integrate modern banking technology and security measures in the new facility to meet international standards.

With the country continuing efforts to stabilise its monetary policy and manage inflation, improved infrastructure for currency handling is viewed as a key component in building a more efficient and transparent financial system.

BoSS has recently increased its focus on strengthening governance, payment systems, and institutional capacity to ensure that its operations meet the needs of the growing population and the demands of a modern economy. The new Currency Centre will be central to this transformation.
