(JUBA) – The Government of South Sudan has confirmed the arrival of eight individuals, including one South Sudanese national, who were deported from the United States of America and landed at Juba International Airport on 5th July 2025. The deportation was carried out under standard US procedures and coordinated with South Sudanese authorities.
According to an official statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation on 8th July, the individuals are now under the care of relevant South Sudanese institutions in Juba. Authorities are screening them and ensuring their safety and well-being, in accordance with national law and international norms.
This development takes place within the broader context of ongoing bilateral engagement between South Sudan and the United States. The two countries continue to cooperate on a wide range of matters, including political affairs, economic development, investment, security, humanitarian concerns, and consular cooperation. These engagements are aimed at strengthening mutual understanding and addressing shared concerns.
The government recalled with appreciation the longstanding support offered by the United States during South Sudan’s journey to independence, including the 2011 referendum and the post independence phase. Responding positively to a US request, South Sudan accepted the deportees as part of its commitment to humanitarian cooperation and mutual respect.
Officials said the decision to receive the deportees was well-studied and reflects South Sudan’s strong adherence to international cooperation principles and its humanitarian obligations. The move also acknowledges the historical and political connections between South Sudan and the countries of origin of some of the third-country nationals involved.
The government reiterated that its highest obligation is to the people of South Sudan. It pledged to continue upholding the rule of law, protecting national interests, and adhering to international legal standards. Furthermore, South Sudan reaffirmed its ongoing efforts to strengthen international partnerships that support peace, development, mutual benefit, and effective global cooperation.
