(JUBA) – The Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in South Sudan hosted a “Tripartite Mechanism Meeting” on consular protection in Juba on 26 June 2025. The meeting was part of ongoing efforts to strengthen cooperation between the Chinese Embassy, the South Sudanese government and Chinese businesses and residents living in South Sudan.
Chinese Ambassador Ma Qiang attended the session and delivered the keynote address, emphasising the importance of dialogue and mutual support in advancing the safety and welfare of Chinese nationals in South Sudan.
More than 50 participants took part in the meeting, including officials from the South Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ministry of Trade and Industry, National Police Service, National Security Service, Directorate of Civil Registry, Nationality, Passports and Immigration and Juba City Council.
Representatives of Chinese companies and members of the Chinese community in South Sudan were also in attendance.
During the meeting, participants held open and constructive discussions aimed at improving communication and coordination on issues of consular protection.
The discussions covered practical cooperation, personnel exchanges and the specific challenges faced by Chinese nationals and businesses operating in South Sudan.
According to participants, the meeting provided a timely platform to exchange views and propose solutions to shared concerns. These included issues related to administrative procedures, business operations, and the safety of Chinese citizens in South Sudan.
Several representatives from the Chinese community shared their concerns and suggestions for improving administrative transparency, enhancing security cooperation, and streamlining immigration processes.
In turn, South Sudanese officials expressed their willingness to work closely with the Chinese government to address these matters through regular dialogue.
The Tripartite Mechanism, which brings together Chinese diplomatic officials, South Sudanese government institutions and Chinese citizens and enterprises, was praised by both sides as an effective framework for engagement.
All parties reaffirmed their commitment to using the Tripartite Meeting Mechanism as a tool to promote stronger cooperation, enhance mutual understanding and advance the long-standing friendship between China and South Sudan.
