(JUBA) – South Sudan’s Vice President, Josephine Joseph Lagu, has announced a major initiative to reform the country’s health system. The Presidential Compact on Health System Transformation aims to coordinate health improvements across all government ministries and accelerate much-needed changes in the sector.
Speaking at the closing of the 2025 National Health Summit in Juba, Vice President Lagu said the compact will improve service delivery, increase domestic funding for healthcare, guarantee timely payment of health workers, and launch a national public health dashboard to monitor sector performance in real time.
Minister of Health Sarah Cleto Rial confirmed that incentive payments for health workers will begin in the coming weeks. She also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening hospitals and community health services across all South Sudanese states.
The four-day summit brought together national and state leaders, development partners, and civil society organisations. Participants concluded the event with a roadmap aimed at creating a more equitable, resilient, and accountable healthcare system for all South Sudanese citizens.
According to government sources, the compact will involve increased investment from domestic revenue, targeting both primary care services and major hospitals, with progress tracked via the new digital dashboard.
