(NIMULE, MAGWI COUNTY) – Senior officials of the South Sudan Revenue Authority have visited the Customs Division in Nimule town in Eastern Equatoria State to discuss operational challenges and prepare staff for next year’s launch of the One Stop Border Post, a project aimed at improving efficiency at the country’s busiest trade gateway.

The delegation was led by Deputy Commissioner General John Mading Bol, who met senior officers and staff to review progress and discuss priority reforms. He said the Authority intends to modernise border operations by shifting from manual procedures to digital systems that can reduce delays and make work easier for staff.

He said the new system will help support trade and improve overall services at the border. He also noted the need for continued cooperation with development partners to complete the One Stop Border Post project as planned.

Commissioner for the Customs Division, Col Akech Tong Malek, said customs performance remains central to national revenue collection. He said the sector aims to increase its contribution from the current level of about forty percent to sixty percent, noting that customs income supports a large share of government operations. He described customs as an essential part of the economy and said improved systems will help achieve the revenue target.

Assistant Commissioner for Nimule Border Station, Gatluak Riek Mark, thanked customs staff for their dedication and said their work has produced positive results despite pressure from high traffic and limited facilities.

The visit reflects the Authority’s efforts to strengthen border management, improve transparency and prepare for new digital systems that are expected to support trade, improve compliance and raise revenue.
