(ZAPORIZHZHIA REGION) – Ukrainian military units reported the destruction of a Russian Kasta 35N6 radar station on 1 March in the Zaporizhzhia region.
According to the statement, the operation was carried out jointly by the Birds of the SBS unit and Ukraine’s Special Operations Forces. The targeted system, identified as the Kasta 35N6 radar, forms part of a two component air defence complex. It is a two coordinate mobile radar station designed to monitor airspace, determine the coordinates of aerodynamic targets flying at extremely low altitudes, and assist in managing air traffic.
The Kasta 35N6 is capable of detecting up to 20 airborne targets simultaneously within one minute at altitudes as low as 100 metres and at a range of up to 44 kilometres. It can also detect targets at altitudes of up to 6,000 metres at distances reaching 115 kilometres. Ukrainian operators have described the system as a significant threat to drone pilots operating at tactical and operational depth.
The radar was reportedly struck by pilots from the 1st Separate Centre of the SBS and the Balista unit of the Special Operations Forces. The strike involved small attack drones operating on the forward line. Reconnaissance support was provided by pilots from the 414th Separate Brigade, known as Magyar’s Birds. The operation was conducted in coordination with the SBS Deep Strike Coordination Centre.
The SBS has invited observers to follow operational results through its online scoreboard platform, referred to as Pidrahuika, available via the official SBS portal.
The statement was released on 2 March and attributed to Magyar.
