The number of cholera cases in Abyei and Kadugli is on the rise, prompting UNISFA peacekeepers to initiate health-focused programmes throughout the mission’s Area of Operation. These efforts are aimed at enhancing the resilience of both peacekeepers and the local communities.

In Diffra, Sector North, PAKBATT peacekeepers collaborated with local health authorities to establish a cholera isolation centre. This centre offers treatment and isolation services to those affected. It is accessible to both Misseriya and Ngok Dinka communities, as well as traders in the Amiet market. In addition to treatment, peacekeepers are providing medicines, masks, hand sanitizers, raincoats, mosquito nets, and clothing to support prevention efforts.

Meanwhile, in Sector South, GHANBATT peacekeepers have intensified community awareness campaigns. These campaigns include promoting hygiene and conducting medical outreach programmes to assist vulnerable groups. Peacekeepers are educating on clean water practices, distributing water purification tablets, and disseminating hygiene messages. Additionally, they are conducting medical clinics providing screenings and basic treatment.

Within Sector Center, GHANBATT medical teams have established an isolation centre at Mission Headquarters in Abyei. Here, both peacekeepers and community members are receiving cholera vaccinations and treatment. This dual approach aims to protect both host communities and mission personnel, demonstrating UNISFA’s dedication to health security and operational readiness.

Teams from INDBATT in the same sector are also delivering emergency responses by offering immediate care and basic treatment to affected individuals.
