(ABYEI) – Major General Robert Affram, Acting Head of Mission and Force Commander, recently led a delegation from Mission Headquarters on an operational visit to Sector South and Sector North in Abyei. The purpose of the tour was to assess operational readiness and address challenges encountered in the implementation of the mandate.
During the visit, the delegation toured Company Operating Bases in Rumamier, Marial Achak, Tajalei, and Todach. Major General Affram personally interacted with peacekeepers at each location, commending their commitment and dedication to safeguarding civilians, particularly in remote areas.
The tour concluded in Todach with a community engagement event where the delegation met with Misseriya and Ngok Dinka leaders representing the Joint Community Protection Committee, the Joint Peace Committee, the Traditional Court, and women and youth representatives. Discussions centred on security concerns and the need for improved access to essential services. Leaders also emphasised the importance of ongoing support for peace initiatives.
Major General Affram acknowledged the issues raised by the communities and reiterated UNISFA’s dedication to collaborating closely with local stakeholders to address these challenges and enhance peacebuilding efforts.
