(BENTIU) – A delegation from the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense has visited South Sudan to carry out an official evaluation of the performance of Vietnam’s Level 2 Field Hospital Rotation 6, which is currently operating under the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS). The assessment focused on technical capabilities, mission effectiveness and alignment with UN standards in the Unity State region, particularly Bentiu.
The evaluation team was led by Colonel Mac Duc Trong, Deputy Director of the Vietnam Department of Peacekeeping Operations. During the visit, the delegation engaged with UNMISS officials, sector commanders, and other peacekeeping units operating in the Unity/Bentiu Sector. The aim of the mission was to review operations on the ground, identify areas of improvement and strengthen Vietnam’s contribution to international peacekeeping efforts.
Brigadier General Zewdu Endris Yimer, the Commander of the Unity Sector, praised the Vietnamese team for meeting all UN medical and operational standards. He commended the leadership and dedication of the hospital’s senior command, noting their effective response to humanitarian and peacekeeping needs in the area.
Vietnam’s Level 2 Field Hospital Rotation 6 plays a key role in supporting both military personnel and civilians in UN operations. The hospital provides essential medical services including surgery, trauma care, disease treatment and health support in a region where healthcare infrastructure is limited.
The evaluation mission reinforces Vietnam’s commitment to international peacekeeping and also supports ongoing collaboration between the Vietnamese forces and the UN in South Sudan. Such assessments are considered vital to maintaining the operational effectiveness and long-term sustainability of medical support services in high risk environments.
Vietnam has been participating in UN peacekeeping operations since 2014, with South Sudan being a priority mission area. The Vietnamese field hospitals have gained recognition for their professionalism, discipline, and humanitarian outreach in conflict affected zones like Bentiu.
