(BENTIU, UNITY STATE) – Vietnam’s Level 2 Field Hospital Rotation 6, working under the authorisation of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS), carried out a charity mission at Unity State Prison in Bentiu on Monday. The hospital team offered free medical services, training and support to both prisoners and prison staff.
The delegation provided physical examinations, health consultations and essential medicines. They also inspected the prison’s medical facilities and issued recommendations on how to improve hygiene, nutrition and disease prevention.
In addition, the team organised a training session for the prison’s medical staff and officers. The training covered first aid techniques, emergency response, infectious disease control and environmental sanitation. These efforts aimed to strengthen the prison’s ability to handle everyday health issues as well as emergencies.
The initiative was welcomed by UNMISS and appreciated by local officials. Major Phichayathida, a civil-military coordination officer with the UN, praised Vietnam’s support.
“Today we came to donate many things from Vietnam’s Level 2 Hospital to the Bentiu State Prison. I am very appreciative of all the support and coordination from Vietnam. You do a lot for us and thank you so much,” she said.
The field hospital’s activities are part of Vietnam’s broader peacekeeping efforts in South Sudan.
Vietnam’s peacekeeping mission has been recognised for its professionalism and commitment. Its support in Unity State has added to the country’s growing image as a responsible member of the international community and reputation as a peace oriented nation willing to assist in global stability.
