(JUBA) – Warrap State Governor Bol Wek Agoth has called on local chiefs to ensure a peaceful and effective disarmament campaign as part of efforts to restore law and order in the state. Speaking in Gogrial East County on Sunday, August 17, 2025, the Governor stressed that peace and stability are essential prerequisites for development.
“Our State can be developed to the level of America. Everything is possible,” Governor Agoth said, pledging to make peace the foundation for service delivery and infrastructure growth.
Earlier this year, President Salva Kiir Mayardit placed Warrap and Unity States under a State of Emergency following recurring communal violence, cattle raids, and armed youth clashes that have caused deaths and displaced families. The order empowers state authorities to carry out disarmament campaigns aimed at restoring public security.
At the Gogrial East meeting, William Deng Akoon encouraged residents to embrace peace, quoting: “In you, O Lord, I put my trust; let me not be put to shame.” He urged communities to follow God’s guidance to prevent further societal harm caused by lawlessness.
Dr. Achuil Malei Aliap delivered a message from the First Lady of South Sudan, Mama Mary Ayen Mayardit, pledging her support for the Governor’s efforts and urging local residents to rally behind him. Gen. Garang Mabil Deng highlighted the role of elders in fostering unity, noting that “The unity of the elders is the unity of our young people and which in turn is our unity in general.”
Governor Agoth also raised concerns about youth involvement in illicit drinking and committed to working with county authorities on rehabilitation and empowerment programmes to transform young people into productive citizens.
Community leaders and county officials expressed their support for the disarmament process, pledging to cooperate with the state government to ensure the successful implementation of the State of Emergency.
