The South Sudan National Bureau of Standards recently discovered and confiscated 235 packages of expired Kenfresh Tea during routine market inspections in Juba.
According to a statement on their official Facebook page, the Bureau’s Market Surveillance Team, operating under the Quality Assurance Department, conducted the operation last week in Juba. The expired tea, deemed a health risk, was promptly removed from store shelves.
In a bid to combat expired, counterfeit, and substandard products, the Bureau is urging consumers to remain vigilant and report any suspicious items they encounter. Protecting consumers and upholding quality standards in the market remains a top priority for the agency.
This latest seizure comes after previous operations where trucks carrying maize flour, maize grains with high aflatoxin levels and beans infested with live insects were intercepted at the Nimule border point en route to Juba. After laboratory tests, the goods were deemed unsuitable for trade and consumption, resulting in the trucks being re-exported to their countries of origin.
