(WARRAP STATE, TONJ SOUTH COUNTY) – Communities in Manyang-ngok Payam of Tonj South County have received humanitarian assistance from the office of the governor, fulfilling a pledge made during a recent peace tour in the conflict affected parts of Warrap State.

The relief items were delivered over the weekend by Tonj South County Commissioner, John Ayitiak Warwien, who travelled to Manyang-ngok to oversee the distribution. The assistance follows months of hardship caused by persistent communal violence that has left many residents on the edge of starvation.

Earlier in August, the Governor of Warrap State visited the area to assess the destruction caused by recurring conflict and to understand the challenges facing affected communities. During the visit, the governor promised to provide humanitarian support to families in urgent need.

The relief supplies, which included both food and non food items, were welcomed by local residents. Commissioner Ayitiak expressed gratitude to the governor for responding to the voices of vulnerable families in the county. He also stressed the importance of carrying out disarmament peacefully and urged both traditional and youth leaders to cooperate with the government to enable the delivery of essential services.

“Disarmament is necessary, but it must happen without resistance,” Ayitiak said, noting that security and peace are vital for communities to recover.

One of the beneficiaries, Amou Mayen Loi, described the assistance as a sign of renewed hope for families who have endured loss and displacement due to communal clashes. She said the support symbolises an effort towards restoring peace and rebuilding lives in one of Warrap’s most remote areas.

“As mothers, we have lost many loved ones to violence. This aid gives us courage to believe in peace again,” Mayen said while speaking on behalf of other displaced women in the payam.

Manyang-ngok Payam, one of the most isolated administrative units in Warrap State, struggles with limited communication, poor road networks, and inadequate access to health and education services.
