The governor of Warrap State, Ambassador Bol Wek Agoth, has committed to enhancing the welfare of the army during the enforcement of a state of emergency in the region.
Speaking to Division 11 at Majaktiit military barracks, Wek emphasised the importance of improving the living conditions of soldiers to facilitate successful disarmament.
He also called upon all residents of Warrap State to cooperate with security forces in order to restore peace.
The presence of the army at Majaktiit has not always been met with cooperation from locals, who have accused them of arbitrary arrests, torture, and looting.
Some have even alleged that certain members of the army are involved in the illegal sale of ammunition to armed groups.
In response, the governor has pledged full support to increase the capacity of the barracks to effectively address the prevalent insecurity.
Wek reiterated that the primary goal of his administration is to combat criminal activities in the state to promote peace and stability.
Division 11 is the sole army division in the fragile Warrap State, and the barracks at Majaktiit have faced numerous confrontations with armed civilians in efforts to quell the conflict.
