(JUBA, CENTRAL EQUATORIA STATE) – Communities from Yei River County have urged Governor Emmanuel Adil Anthony to prioritise road repairs and investment in local coffee farming schemes to boost trade and economic growth.
The visit took place on 13 December 2025 at the Governor’s residence in Juba. Delegates congratulated Governor Adil on his re appointment and presented key development requests to strengthen the local economy.
Community representatives highlighted the urgent need to rehabilitate internal roads, including the Yei-Lasu road, and to complete the Oyisa Bridge. “Repairing the Yei-Lasu road and completing Oyisa Bridge will help farmers and traders reach markets faster and reduce transport costs,” said a community leader.
Agriculture was another major focus. The delegation requested the revival of coffee plantations and support for farmers through the provision of seeds, tools, and training. “Reviving coffee farming will create jobs, increase incomes, and encourage refugees to return,” said a youth leader from Yei.
Governor Adil responded that infrastructure and agricultural projects require cooperation between the government and local communities. “We will prioritise road works and agricultural support, but this requires unity and partnership with residents,” he said. The Governor also noted that the Juba-Yei-Kaya-Maridi road project is expected to start soon, which will improve transport links and facilitate trade across the region.
The delegation included Members of Parliament, ministers, youth and women representatives, elders, civil society members, and traditional performers. They expressed support for Governor Adil while emphasising practical economic development priorities.
Officials said the government is committed to improving security and infrastructure to create an enabling environment for investment and sustainable growth in Yei River County.
