(JUBA) – The former President of the South Sudan Football Federation (SSFF), Eng. Amin Francis, has officially submitted his nomination documents to the electoral committee, signalling his intention to contest for the top post once again.
Amin previously led the federation before handing over leadership to the current president, Gen. Agustino Maduot. With the federation preparing for its next election cycle, Amin’s entry adds weight to an increasingly competitive race for the presidency of South Sudan’s football governing body.
In his statement, Amin promised a bold transformation of the country’s football system if granted a renewed mandate. He said that his campaign aims to bring visionary leadership and structural change to a sport that has long struggled to find consistent success, both domestically and on the international stage.
Candidates in the race are expected to campaign vigorously across the country’s sixteen regional football associations. Each candidate will be tasked with presenting their strategic plans and convincing voters that they can take South Sudan’s football to the next level.
As the election approaches, aspirants are being judged not just on past experience, but on how well they can articulate a future-focused and realistic vision for South Sudanese football. The candidate with the most compelling roadmap is likely to secure broad support from stakeholders across the associations.
South Sudan is currently ranked 169th in the world by FIFA. Many within the sport believe that strong leadership is urgently needed to elevate the country’s performance in regional and international competitions.
Amin Francis has expressed his appreciation to his supporters and campaign team for helping him complete the application process and formally enter the race. He said their dedication and coordination were essential in preparing the necessary documents and navigating the requirements set by the electoral committee.
Football remains one of the most followed sports in South Sudan, and the upcoming elections are expected to attract high public interest. With calls growing for accountability and better governance within the SSFF, the leadership contest may mark a turning point for the future of football in the country.
