Francis Amin Secures Second Term as Football Boss

(JUBA) – Francis Amin Michael has been elected as the new President of the South Sudan Football Federation (SSFF), marking his return to the position after previously serving between 2017 and 2021. The election took place during the 4th Elective Extra Ordinary Congress held on Friday at the Bank of South Sudan in Juba.

Amin secured 26 out of 38 votes, defeating incumbent Augustino Maduot Parek, who received 12. Parek also currently serves as the Acting President of the Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA). The victory gives Amin a fresh mandate to lead South Sudanese football until 2029.

In his acceptance remarks, Amin expressed gratitude to the delegates for renewing their confidence in him. “I am very happy that members had trust in me and voted me back to lead football,” he said. Amin, who is also a businessman in Juba, had previously lost his seat in the 2021 elections after completing one term.

The election also saw Makur Majok and Deng Abdelrahman chosen as First and Second Vice Presidents respectively. Delegates at the congress were reminded by the Minister of Youth and Sports, Dr Joseph Geng Akech, to prioritise unity and the wider interests of the sport.

Representatives from FIFA, the world football governing body, and the Confederation of African Football (CAF) attended the congress, underlining the importance of the vote for South Sudanese football on the regional and continental stage.

The SSFF will now operate under new leadership at a time when South Sudan continues to strengthen its presence in regional competitions. The football body faces the challenge of improving infrastructure, developing youth programmes, and enhancing the performance of national teams in continental tournaments.

Amin’s election comes at a period when South Sudan is working to raise the profile of its football across Africa.
