(WAU) – The Governor of Western Bahr El Ghazal State, Maj Gen Sharif Daniel Sharif, has launched the construction of the Kubri Sitta Bridge in Wau. The project is expected to improve movement between Wau South and Wau North and support trade within the town.
The governor described the project as an important step in improving essential infrastructure. He said the bridge responds to public calls for better access and easier transport across the area. He noted that improved road and bridge construction will help support business activity and social services.
During the launching event, Governor Sharif encouraged residents to support the government in ensuring that development projects progress as planned. He said cooperation between the community and authorities will help complete the work on time and help future developments take place.
The governor also instructed security agencies to provide protection for the workers and equipment on site. The construction of the Kubri Sitta Bridge is being handled by Eyat Construction Company. The aim is to ensure the project proceeds without disruption and is completed within the agreed period.
The State Government recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Eyat Construction Company for the construction of two bridges in Wau. The Kubri Sitta Bridge is the first to begin. According to the State Minister of Roads and Bridges, Hon Julio Bensensio Mangu, the second bridge, known as Jazira Bridge, will begin construction next week. Both projects are planned to be completed within five months.
Local observers say the bridges are expected to ease transportation challenges in Wau, lower the cost of moving goods, and support business expansion. Better road and bridge networks are also expected to improve access to schools, hospitals and markets.
The improvement of transport infrastructure has been identified as an important factor in supporting economic growth in Western Bahr El Ghazal and the wider region.
