Members of the Mogiri Community from Mangalla Payam recently met with Lt. Gen. Rabi Mujung Emmanuel, Governor of Central Equatoria State, to address pressing issues affecting their area and to seek collaboration with the State government.

Led by Executive Chief Sanatore Ladu Kose, the delegation included intellectuals, women, youth, and the Mogiri Tomoret Cultural Group. They presented a position paper to the Governor highlighting concerns such as insecurity due to armed cattle herders, insufficient access to clean water, inadequate health services, land grabbing, and lack of political representation.

Governor Mujung stressed the importance of cooperation between the government and the community, emphasising the need for peace and development. He promised to involve leaders from Greater Pibor and Jonglei State in discussions to tackle cattle raiding and security threats at Mogiri Cattle Market.

The Governor underscored the significance of unity for stability and assured the community that their concerns would be considered in the State’s policy direction to promote peace, security, and address land disputes.

Executive Chief Kose expressed gratitude for the Governor’s hospitality and urged direct engagements between State leadership and counterparts from Jonglei and Greater Pibor to prevent violence. He also requested government support to fence the community’s health centre and enhance agricultural practices in the fertile area.

Youth leader Richard Jada highlighted the importance of the rule of law and stability, particularly at Mogiri Cattle Market, for the livelihoods and wellbeing of the community.

Both parties concluded the meeting with a commitment to work together towards addressing the challenges faced by the Mogiri Community.
