(JUBA) – South Sudan’s Minister of Finance and Planning, Marial Dongrin, has affirmed that his ministry is implementing key reforms aimed at stabilising the country’s economy, improving efficiency, and ensuring transparency in public financial management.
Speaking to journalists in Juba on Tuesday during the welcoming ceremony of the new deputy minister, Dongrin said the government is focused on strengthening tax compliance and introducing transparent systems across institutions.
“We are working tirelessly to place the broader economy on a more stable footing, navigating challenges, particularly the impact of the conflict in Sudan on the oil sector,” Dongrin said.
He stressed that these measures are crucial for improving the nation’s economic well being and for building trust in government financial systems.
The Minister outlined that current priorities include managing public expenditures efficiently and reinforcing tax compliance, which he described as essential steps to secure the country’s economic future.
“These actions are fundamental to improving our economic well being. Further, advancing public financial reforms across government institutions continues to be a major item on our agenda,” Dongrin added.
He noted that the ministry’s efforts are ongoing amid challenges such as the spillover effects from the conflict in neighbouring Sudan, which have affected South Sudan’s oil production and revenues.
The Finance Ministry emphasised that stabilising the broader economy and maintaining accountability in government spending remain central to national development strategies.
