The Minister of Health has announced the appointment of Dr. Harriet Akelo Pasquale as the new Director-General for International Health and Coordination. This appointment, detailed in a ministerial order released on Friday, has been made effective immediately.

Dr. Pasquale takes over from Dr. Malek Deng, who has been relieved of his duties in a separate ministerial directive. Dr. Pasquale currently serves as the Chief Executive Officer of Gudele Hospital, a leading private healthcare facility in Juba.

Having previously held the position of undersecretary in the Ministry of Health, Dr. Pasquale was removed from office by a presidential decree in March. In a statement to media, she confirmed her acceptance of the new appointment and outlined her responsibilities, which include liaising with health partners, NGOs, and civil society groups collaborating with the ministry.

Dr. Pasquale remarked, “I have been tasked with overseeing international health and coordination. This will involve managing partnerships with various stakeholders, including NGOs and civil society organisations, to ensure effective policy implementation in the realm of international health.”
