Police in Western Bahr el Ghazal State have apprehended eight suspects involved in the possession and distribution of illegal drugs, including marijuana and crystal methamphetamine, commonly known as Bongo and Ice.

State Police Commissioner, Major General Abiengo Akol Ayuang, disclosed that among the suspects are six men and two women who will be facing legal consequences.

General Ayuang emphasised the severe impacts of drug trafficking and abuse on society, describing them as detrimental and harmful. He urged the public to refrain from engaging in illegal drug activities and assured that the police are dedicated to pursuing drug dealers and enforcing strict legal measures.

The arrest of the eight suspects in Wau follows similar actions in Renk County, Upper Nile State, where authorities took action against individuals found in possession of narcotics and misused pharmaceutical drugs.

The Police Commissioner highlighted the importance of addressing the spread of narcotics, particularly the misuse of medications intended for treatment, and sedatives which have become a growing concern.
