(JUBA) – The Arab Republic of Egypt has pledged to expand its training programmes and scholarships for South Sudan and reinforce its support for education and capacity building in the country.

The announcement was made on Tuesday 19 August 2025 during a farewell meeting between the Egyptian Ambassador to South Sudan, Moataz, and the Minister of Information, Communication Technology and Postal Services, Michael Makuei Lueth.

Moataz highlighted ongoing discussions on Nile Basin cooperation, emphasising the importance of collaboration between Juba and Cairo to ensure both countries benefit from the resources of the Nile. The talks focused on strengthening bilateral relations and exploring opportunities for joint initiatives in education, governance and water management.

Minister Makuei Lueth commended the ambassador for his contributions over the past four years, noting the positive impact of Egypt’s support in South Sudan. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to deepen ties with Egypt and leverage educational and training programmes to build national capacity and enhance professional development for South Sudanese citizens.

The expanded scholarships and capacity-building programmes are expected to provide more opportunities for South Sudanese students and professionals to gain technical skills and knowledge in various sectors, including governance, technology and management.
