(JUBA) – The Embassy of Japan in South Sudan has announced that applications are open for the MEXT Scholarship Programme for Teacher Training Students. The programme offers South Sudanese teachers the opportunity to undertake professional training at a Japanese university.
Unlike academic degree programmes, this scholarship focuses on professional development, allowing teachers to improve their classroom practices and educational skills. The programme is part of Japan’s ongoing support to enhance education in South Sudan.
Applications must be submitted to the Embassy of Japan in Juba by 10 February 2026. Required documents include a completed application form, a certificate of health, and a recommendation letter. Applicants are advised not to send documents directly to Japan’s Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT).
The programme recruitment, which begins in October 2026, is coordinated by Japanese embassies between December and February. The first screening is conducted locally by the embassy. Since schedules vary depending on nationality, applicants should confirm details with the Japanese Embassy in Juba before submitting documents.
Applicants are encouraged to carefully follow the Application Guidelines. Documents may be completed by hand, typed, or printed using software.
This opportunity enables South Sudanese educators to gain international experience, learn modern teaching techniques, and strengthen the country’s education sector.
