(Juba) – The final funeral prayers for the late First Lieutenant General Alfred Ajuong Makuer Ater Ahai were held on Saturday, 28 June 2025, at the Simba Football Ground in Giada, Juba.
The solemn ceremony brought together family members, senior government officials, military leaders, SPLM/SPLA veterans, friends, and the general public to pay their last respects to a man widely regarded as a national hero.
The service began at 11:00 a.m. and was marked by prayers, tributes, and expressions of gratitude for Gen. Ajuong’s life and service.
He is remembered as a dedicated patriot who served South Sudan with courage and commitment during some of the nation’s most difficult periods. His military career spanned decades and saw him contribute significantly to the liberation struggle and the development of the national army.
Among those in attendance were fellow military officers, political leaders, and close comrades from the SPLM/SPLA movement. Many paid tribute to his leadership and discipline, noting that he remained devoted to the country’s stability and unity until his final days.
The event was organised with the full support of the family and military leadership, in line with national honours accorded to a figure of his rank and service.
