The government of Warrap state has officially commenced a tree planting programme in the state capital, with the aim of planting 15,000 trees.
The initiative, supported by ambassador Bol Wek Agoth, is being carried out by the state Ministry of Agriculture in partnership with Natural Planters for Generations, under the theme “Plant a Tree, Save Life”.
During the launch event, Governor Wek encouraged the public to participate in the programme to address the challenges of climate change. He highlighted the potential for economic benefits for the local population through commercial growth.
Governor Wek also pledged to modernize traditional farming practices with the help of financial assistance and favourable government policies.
The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) is among the partners involved in the programme, offering ongoing support in the areas of food security and climate change.
Madam Rose, the FAO representative in the state, stressed the importance of raising awareness among community members about the impacts of climate change.
This tree planting programme aligns with the national agenda to plant a minimum of one hundred trees across South Sudan. The Warrap state Ministry of Agriculture aims to plant ten thousand trees in the country as part of its allocation from the national government.
