(JUBA COUNTY) – Leaders, officials and citizens gathered in Juba on Saturday, 23 August 2025, to pay their final respects to Lt. Gen. Samir Khamis Sauliman Laku, the former Mayor of Juba City Council, who was remembered for his dedicated service and leadership.

The funeral prayers drew a wide range of dignitaries including the Governor of Central Equatoria State, Lt. Gen. Rabi Mujung Emmanuel, former Central Equatoria Governor Gen. Augustino Jadalla Kamilo Wani, Hon. Alfred Lado Gore, the Commissioner of Juba County, former Presidential Advisor Sheik Juma Saed, and the current Mayor of Juba City Council. Members of the late General’s community from Mangalla also attended in large numbers.

In his remarks, Governor Mujung described the late General as a man of great commitment who placed the welfare of his people above personal interest. “Gen. Samir did God’s work. He served with diligence and worked hard for his people. We pray that his soul rests in eternal peace,” the Governor said.

Other mourners highlighted Lt. Gen. Samir’s leadership style, which they said was marked by humility, integrity and a focus on public service. They noted that during his time as Mayor, he worked tirelessly to improve the city and maintain order, earning respect from both colleagues and citizens.

Speakers urged the public to emulate the values of service and dedication demonstrated by the late General, describing him as a role model for younger generations in South Sudan.

The funeral concluded with prayers for peace and comfort for the bereaved family, as well as appeals for unity and solidarity among the people of Central Equatoria and the wider nation.
