(JUBA) – The Governor of Eastern Equatoria State, Louis Lobong Lojore, has held a meeting with the Head of Mission of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) to South Sudan, David Mogga Kawaje, where the two discussed opportunities for investment in the state.
The meeting took place in Juba on 25 August 2025. According to officials, Mr Mogga pledged to visit Eastern Equatoria in September to assess its potential for attracting investment across different sectors.
Governor Lobong assured the IGAD envoy of safety during his planned visit, describing Eastern Equatoria as one of the most peaceful states in South Sudan. He said the state provides a secure environment for investors and partners who wish to engage in development projects.
The Governor added that his administration is keen to create favourable conditions for both domestic and foreign investment. He invited stakeholders to explore opportunities in agriculture, infrastructure, mining, tourism and trade, sectors which he said remain largely untapped but have the potential to support long term economic growth in the region.
Lobong also highlighted the strategic importance of Eastern Equatoria as the location of Nimule, South Sudan’s busiest border entry point with Uganda. The Nimule crossing is a vital route for trade and transport, serving as the main supply line for goods entering South Sudan. Officials said that improved security and infrastructure in the state would further boost Nimule’s role as a regional trade hub.
Officials at the meeting noted that the Governor is expected to continue consultations with government institutions and development partners in the coming weeks.
Eastern Equatoria has often been described by both state officials and investors as a relatively stable area, in comparison to other parts of the country where insecurity continues to limit growth.
