(JUBA) – South Sudan’s general elections will go ahead as scheduled at the end of 2026, with no extension or delay, a member of the Transitional National Legislature, Stephen Lual Ngor, has confirmed.
Lual described the upcoming elections as a key national milestone agreed upon by all signatories of the peace agreement. He urged political leaders, parties, and stakeholders to support the democratic process and work together to ensure its success.
He said the elections represent a historic turning point for South Sudan and called for unity of purpose to guarantee a smooth and credible vote. According to Lual, the goal is to establish a democratically elected government under President Salva Kiir Mayardit, whom he described as a leader committed to peace, stability, and prosperity.
“There will be no extension and no postponement,” Lual emphasised. “The time has come for the people of South Sudan to take their historic step toward full democracy, under their legitimate leadership, in the spirit of unity and with determination to build a nation founded on peace, stability, and progress.”
