(WAU) – Traders in Jou Market, located in Wau, the capital of Western Bahr el Ghazal State, have praised the state government’s decision to deploy police officers in the market. The move aims to curb theft and protect vendors, particularly ahead of the Christmas season, when market activity increases.

Several traders told media that while the deployment has improved security, more personnel are needed to fully control crime in the busy market. Mohammed Saleh, a vendor, highlighted recent thefts in the market and expressed gratitude for the government’s efforts to safeguard shops.

“We need increased security in the market because there have been many theft cases recently. However, they must increase the number of police,” Saleh said. “There are people who dress very well but are involved in stealing. We thank the government for providing us security because, as we speak, theft has reduced.”

Saleh also noted that commodity prices have dropped since the police deployment.

“The prices in the market have reduced, and everything is going on well with our police moving within the market to control crime,” he said.

Another trader, Musa Ibrahim, also welcomed the government’s intervention, describing the deployment as a relief.

“As of now, stealing has stopped, but we are asking for the deployment of more security forces in the market,” he said.
