(Juba) – MTN South Sudan has announced a new flexible payment initiative allowing customers to own the latest Samsung smartphones without paying the full price upfront.
The “Berabera” offer, launched on Friday, enables buyers to pay for their devices in small, manageable instalments—a move that could expand access to smart devices in a country where smartphones are increasingly vital but often unaffordable for many.
The offer is available at three key MTN stores in Juba: MTN House CSP, Juba Town CSP, and Hai Cinema CSP. Interested customers can activate the deal by dialling *100*10# on their mobile phones. After registration, they can select a Samsung device and begin paying in instalments while already enjoying the use of the phone.
This campaign, branded under the slogan “Get a new Samsung phone and pay berabera,” targets South Sudanese customers who want access to modern technology without the pressure of a one time bulk payment.
The phrase “berabera” loosely translates to “bit by bit” or “gradually,” reflecting the instalment-based nature of the programme.
MTN’s Berabera initiative comes at a time when smartphone adoption is growing in South Sudan but remains limited due to high costs.
With the official exchange rate at SSP 4,650 per US dollar and SSP 7,000 on the parallel market, the average cost of a modern Samsung smartphone, ranging between $100 and $500 (approximately SSP 465,000 to SSP 3,500,000), remains out of reach for many consumers if paid at once.
MTN aims to ease this financial burden and empower more South Sudanese people to access smart services such as mobile money, e-learning, job searches, digital marketplaces and more by spreading the cost over several payments.
These services rely heavily on smartphone ownership and connectivity, which MTN says is part of its broader commitment to “smart living.”
MTN has not disclosed the full list of Samsung models covered under the offer, but marketing materials suggest that mid range and flagship devices are included.
The offer is available while stocks last and is expected to attract a high number of participants in urban centres, especially young people and first time smartphone users.
In recent years, telecommunications companies in South Sudan have been looking for innovative ways to improve digital inclusion. MTN’s latest campaign is part of this trend, offering practical solutions in an economy still recovering from inflation and currency instability.
Customers are advised to visit the participating stores for full details and to verify payment schedules and conditions. The MTN Berabera plan is expected to run until stock is depleted or further notice is given.
