(ZAPORIZHZHIA REGION) – Ukrainian military units have successfully neutralised a Russian BM-27 Uragan-1 multiple launch rocket system in the occupied territories of the Zaporizhzhia region. The operation was carried out by the Lasar’s Group of the National Guard in coordination with the 422nd LUFTWAFFE Separate Unmanned Systems Battalion and the 104th Unmanned Systems Center. According to military officials, this specific launcher had been identified as the source of several recent strikes against civilian infrastructure in the city of Zaporizhzhia.
The interception followed a multi-month intelligence operation where Ukrainian reconnaissance teams monitored the movements and deployment routes of the system. The destruction of the hardware involved a combination of heavy bomber drones and FPV loitering munitions. Following an initial disabling strike, secondary engagements caused a catastrophic detonation of the vehicle’s ammunition.
The Uragan-1 represents a modernised version of the Soviet era 220mm system, featuring a 9K57 launcher integrated onto a BAZ-69092 chassis. While Russia began serial production of this variant in 2023 to replace its aging ZIL-135LM fleet, the system remains vulnerable to Ukraine’s increasingly sophisticated drone network. This success follows a similar operation by Lasar’s Group where a Russian Grad system was also eliminated in the same sector.
