(JUBA) – Nile Petroleum Corporation, widely known as Nilepet, has won the 2025 Petro Cup football championship after defeating the Greater Pioneers Operating Company in the final match of the annual tournament. The competition brings together teams from oil companies working in South Sudan.
The Petro Cup is seen as an event that promotes teamwork, cooperation and social engagement among companies operating in the oil sector, which remains the main source of national revenue. The tournament also provides a platform for workers to interact outside office and field operations.
At the post match gathering, Nilepet Managing Director Eng. Ayuel Ngor congratulated the players for their effort. He said the team had shown strong commitment and discipline in training and during the matches.
Eng. Ngor said sports continue to play an important part in bringing young people together across the country. He encouraged companies to support activities that help build unity among workers and communities.
He also said Nilepet would continue to support the participation of the players in future competitions, including any national level events where they may be selected to represent the country.
The tournament has grown in popularity in recent years, with several companies forming well organised teams. It is considered one of the key annual social events for the petroleum sector.
