(NOVOROSSIYSK, KRASNODAR KRAI, RUSSIA) – Ukrainian strike drones carried out a series of attacks on the Russian port city of Novorossiysk, targeting oil and transport infrastructure in what commentators described as one of Kyiv’s most significant strikes of 2026 so far.
According to reports and video commentary, the operation resulted in four hits on the oil port, one hit on a fuel oil terminal and two strikes on railway infrastructure. The attacks were concentrated on port facilities that have previously been targeted in earlier Ukrainian operations.
Footage circulating online shows fires burning in sections of the oil port area. The facility has been struck multiple times during the war, including previous attacks on oil storage tanks, oil tankers and loading docks. In earlier incidents, damage to loading piers reportedly forced the port offline for several weeks.
Initial assessments suggest the oil port bore the brunt of the latest assault. However, independent confirmation of the full extent of the damage is still pending. Satellite imagery is expected to provide clearer evidence in the coming days.
There have so far been no confirmed reports of direct strikes on vessels belonging to the Russian Black Sea Fleet, which maintains facilities in the wider Novorossiysk area. Observers note that only a small patrol craft has reportedly been sunk this year, and there is no indication at present that larger naval assets were hit in this attack.
Novorossiysk lies in the Krasnodar Krai region and serves as a major export hub for Russian oil. The port is a critical node in Russia’s energy supply chain and plays a significant role in generating revenue for the federal budget, which remains heavily dependent on hydrocarbon exports.
Commentary accompanying the footage claimed that the strike demonstrates continued weaknesses in Russian air defence systems. The commentator described the operation as a large scale and successful strike, stating that it showed Ukraine remains capable of carrying out complex operations deep inside Russian territory.
The attack comes amid intense international focus on tensions involving Iran and the United States.
