(KURSK REGION, RUSSIA) – Ukrainian forces have released video showing the destruction of a warehouse in Russia’s Kursk region that Kyiv says contained up to 10,000 first person view FPV drones and ten utility vehicles.
According to a Ukrainian statement, the site housed a large number of boxed FPV drones alongside several light vehicles, including UAZ Bukhanka vans, sometimes informally referred to as Scooby Doo vans, and trucks.
The footage shows a Ukrainian drone approaching the building through a window opening. The operator appears to receive instructions from a commander on where to strike in order to maximise damage. Observers suggested this may have been a relatively inexperienced operator being guided on target selection.
In the video, the operator is directed to hit one of the vans rather than the crates of drones. Analysts note that the drones were likely stored without munitions attached, meaning a direct strike on the boxes would not have triggered significant secondary explosions. By contrast, striking a fuelled vehicle was expected to produce a larger fire, which could then spread throughout the warehouse.
The footage shows a subsequent blaze engulfing the interior. Ukraine reports that the entire warehouse and its contents were destroyed. It remains unclear whether additional drones were deployed to complete the strike or whether the initial impact and resulting fire were sufficient to destroy the stockpile.
No precise geolocation has been publicly confirmed. The video identifies the site as being in the Kursk region. Ukrainian sources link the facility to Russian military activity near the border area opposite Sumy region in north eastern Ukraine, parts of which are currently under Russian control. The FPV drones stored at the warehouse were likely intended for use in operations in that sector.
The original audio of the strike was not included in the released clip due to copyright restrictions related to an added music track.
The reported destruction of 10,000 FPV drones, if confirmed, would represent a significant logistical setback. FPV drones have been widely used by Russian forces in frontline operations. The Russian dictator Vladimir Putin has made expanded drone production a central element of Moscow’s war effort.
Ukraine says the strike demonstrates continued capability to identify and hit military logistics targets inside Russian territory.
