(JUBA) – President Salva Kiir Mayardit met with Israel’s Deputy Foreign Minister, Sharren Haskel, on Wednesday at the State House to discuss strengthening diplomatic and development relations between South Sudan and Israel.

The discussions focused on expanding cooperation across multiple sectors, including energy, agriculture, healthcare, security, and water resource management.

Foreign Affairs Minister Monday Semaya Kumba said the meeting underlined South Sudan’s commitment to maintaining strong ties with Israel. He highlighted Israel’s longstanding support for South Sudan, dating back to the liberation struggle.

In a move to attract foreign investment, South Sudan offered Israeli investors opportunities in oil and gas, minerals, agriculture, and water resource management. The two countries also signed a Memorandum of Understanding to improve coordination and cooperation on matters of mutual interest.

Deputy Foreign Minister Haskel described the visit as a reflection of friendship and solidarity between the two nations. She announced a new humanitarian aid package for South Sudan, which includes food supplies and medical equipment to support ongoing relief efforts.
