(JUBA COUNTY) – The Ministry of Trade and Industry of the Republic of South Sudan has formally opened its 2026 planning cycle, with the Minister, Hon. Atong Kuol Manyang, chairing the first senior management meeting of the year in Juba on January 15, 2026.

The meeting, registered as Senior Management Meeting No. 01 of 2026, brought together the leadership of the ministry to review the strategic direction for the new fiscal year. Discussions focused on the overall roadmap of the ministry, departmental work plans and priority activities scheduled for implementation during 2026.

According to officials present, the session aimed to ensure that ministerial objectives are closely aligned with the approved annual work plan. This alignment is intended to strengthen service delivery to the private sector and support steady industrial growth, which remains a key pillar of South Sudan’s economic recovery and diversification efforts.

The ministry emphasised the importance of coordinated planning across departments as the country seeks to improve the business environment, expand domestic production and attract investment. Trade policy, industrial development and internal efficiency were highlighted as central themes for the year ahead, reflecting the government’s wider focus on economic stability and growth.

Senior figures attending the meeting included the Technical Advisor to the Ministry, Hon. Simon Nyang Anei, the Undersecretary, Hon. Ustaz Yel Luol, as well as directors general and senior technical staff. Their participation underscored the role of senior management in translating policy priorities into practical actions.

The Ministry of Trade and Industry plays a critical role in shaping South Sudan’s commercial landscape, particularly at a time when businesses are seeking clearer regulation, improved services and consistent policy direction. The outcomes of the meeting are expected to guide the ministry’s engagement with the private sector and other stakeholders throughout 2026.
