(JUBA) – South Sudanese model and public figure Cyer Mayar has officially responded to growing media speculation surrounding the reported cancellation of her engagement, choosing to speak out in her own words after weeks of online commentary and speculation.

In a public message shared through her social platforms, Mayar confirmed that the voice circulating in recent audio clips is indeed hers, though she expressed uncertainty about how it was leaked to the public.

She described the situation as personal and initially intended to be handled privately, but said she now feels forced to speak out after feeling threatened by what she referred to as “the actual villain” involved.

“I have never had an issue with polygamy from a young age,” Mayar stated, adding that despite her personal openness to the practice, she had always hoped to influence how polygamous relationships are approached in her own family.

“It was to be solved maturely and out of media,” she said, “but if it found its way into media and it’s now a threat to me by the actual villain, I would like to say I’m proud of myself for being humane enough to fight for another woman that the world is being unfair to.”

Some users criticised her for contradicting herself, pointing out her earlier acceptance of polygamy and questioning why she accepted the engagement in the first place.

Others defended her right to change her mind and to speak up, arguing that engagement does not amount to marriage and that she is within her rights to withdraw if she feels mistreated.

Although the identity of her former fiancé was not officially mentioned in her statement, social media commentary suggested that it involved a prominent older man.
