(MOSCOW) – Vladimir Solovyov, a prominent figure in Russian state broadcasting, has delivered a scathing assessment of the domestic economy while issuing violent threats against European political figures. During a broadcast of “Sunday Evening With Vladimir Solovyov,” the host questioned the competence of the Kremlin’s economic authorities, specifically targeting the central bank’s recent interest rate adjustments and the government’s failure to curb inflation.
The discussion highlighted a growing friction between state propaganda and the reality of the Russian economy. Solovyov ridiculed the “mega regulator” for high interest rates, which remain at 16 per cent, arguing that such fiscal constraints prevent the expansion of the military industrial complex. He noted that the Ministry of Economic Development had admitted to a deliberate slowdown in growth to fight inflation, a strategy Solovyov claimed had failed as prices continue to rise.
According to the host, the reduction in economic activity led to a shortfall in the national budget, necessitating tax increases which further drove up inflation. Solovyov expressed frustration that Russian manufacturers cannot secure credit to build factories for essential hardware, such as drones, leaving the military reliant on components from China.
The broadcast transitioned into aggressive rhetoric directed at the West following the Munich Security Conference. Solovyov called for the destruction of the city of Munich and several German leaders, including Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock. He alleged that Germany is preparing for a genocidal war against Russia, claiming that drones used by Ukrainian forces would soon carry German markings.
Political scientist Sergey Mikheyev, a guest on the programme, echoed these sentiments, describing the Munich conference as a “gathering of psychopaths”. He argued that only the threat of total European destruction would deter Western intervention. The segment concluded with the assertion that the European Union, led by Ursula von der Leyen, is attempting to construct a “new Reich” using a perceived Russian threat as a catalyst for war.
As the Kremlin’s military campaign in Ukraine continues, the Russian dictator, Vladimir Putin, faces the challenge of balancing a “war economy” against the backdrop of significant Western sanctions and internal fiscal instability.
