Health authorities in Warrap State have confirmed that a total of 73 cases of cholera have been reported, including six fatalities in the areas of Akon and Kuajok.

During a media briefing over the weekend, John Akol Akol, a Surveillance Officer at the state Ministry of Health, highlighted the surge in cholera cases due to poor sanitation practices.

Akol stated that since July, a total of seventy three cases have been recorded in Kuajok Town and Akon payam of Gogrial West County.

“During July, we recorded 73 cases in Kuajok town and Akon payam. Currently, 14 patients are still under medical care, while 6 individuals sadly passed away before reaching health facilities and the remaining patients have been discharged,” Akol reported.

The Health Officer emphasised the importance of maintaining proper hygiene within communities to prevent the spread of cholera.

“It is crucial for all residents of Warrap to ensure cleanliness in their households as poor hygiene can lead to cholera and other diseases,” Akol emphasised.

He assured that health officials are dedicated to providing necessary assistance to areas affected by cholera and urged families to adhere to preventive measures.

“We, as healthcare workers, are committed to helping our people survive cholera, but we need the cooperation of families in following preventive measures,” he added.

Akol also called on humanitarian partners to continue their support in affected areas, specifically in Warrap, and urged local leaders to raise awareness in villages to protect communities from the impact of cholera.
