(WASHINGTON, D.C.) – The Embassy of the Republic of South Sudan in Washington has issued an advisory to South Sudanese students studying in the United States, warning them against international travel due to heightened visa restrictions.

The Embassy said that students who leave the United States now risk being denied re-entry as a result of recent revocations of visas affecting South Sudanese nationals. The statement comes at a time when many students are beginning a new academic year.

In its guidance, the Embassy urged students to strictly follow United States visa regulations. These include maintaining full time academic status, ensuring that SEVIS records are up to date, avoiding unauthorised employment and complying with all federal, state and local laws.

Students intending to transfer to another university or change their academic institution have been advised to first contact the Embassy’s Education Desk by email at nkuol@ssembassydc.org before beginning the process.

The advisory also addressed newly admitted students who are still awaiting visa approvals. The Embassy called for patience, noting that the Government of South Sudan is actively engaging with United States authorities in an effort to find a solution.

For now, officials say the priority is to avoid disruptions to the education of South Sudanese nationals in America. The Embassy has pledged to continue monitoring the situation and will provide further updates as needed.

Students can also contact the Embassy support team during working hours on +1 202-600-2238 for assistance.
