(JUBA) – The South Sudan Meteorological Department has warned that several parts of the country may face serious flooding between July and September 2025. The warning comes as early floods have already been reported in Jonglei State and the Greater Pibor Administrative Area.
According to the national weather forecast, Eastern Equatoria, Greater Pibor, Jonglei, and the eastern parts of Upper Nile State are expected to receive more rainfall than normal. These areas are likely to be at the highest risk of floods.
Weather expert Samuel Tong told Radio Miraya that people living in low-lying areas should consider moving to higher ground. He asked communities to listen to weather updates and protect their homes, farms, and families.
“The outlook shows that above-normal rainfall in some areas may lead to flooding, which is already happening in Jonglei and Greater Pibor,” Tong said. “People should take early action to avoid danger.”
