(JUBA) – MTN South Sudan has introduced a new service called “Dafa le ana”, translated from Arabic as “Pay for me”, that allows customers to make phone calls even when they do not have airtime.
The new feature enables users with zero balance to reach others by requesting the receiving party to pay for the call.
The service, available to all MTN subscribers, is aimed at helping customers stay connected during times of financial difficulty or emergency.
It is also meant to offer a practical solution for individuals who need to communicate but are unable to top up their airtime at that moment.
To use the service, an MTN customer simply dials the number they wish to call and selects Option 1 when prompted. This sends a request to the person receiving the call, giving them the option to accept and pay for the call on behalf of the caller.
MTN says the feature can be used “anytime, anywhere”, as part of its broader efforts to enhance inclusive communication and customer convenience across South Sudan.
The company has not specified the cost breakdown of the calls under this feature, but it is understood that regular call rates will apply to the recipient who agrees to accept the charges.
Below is a simplified breakdown of how the service works:
| Feature | Details |
|---|---|
| Service Name | “Dafa le ana” (Pay for me) |
| Who Pays | Recipient of the call |
| How to Activate | Dial number > Select Option 1 |
| Availability | 24/7 – Anytime, Anywhere |
| Purpose | To allow calling without airtime |
| Operator | MTN South Sudan |
MTN says this new service reflects its commitment to making mobile communication accessible to everyone, regardless of their financial circumstances.
It is particularly relevant in South Sudan, where economic pressures and inflation continue to affect people’s ability to purchase mobile credit regularly.
The company has continued to expand its product offerings in the country, recently launching other customer focused services such as home WiFi packs .
