(WESTERN EQUATORIA STATE) – The Ministry of General Education and Instruction in Western Equatoria State has announced new registration fees for Primary Eight candidates preparing for the 2025 national examinations.

According to Charles Ikpiro, the Director of Examinations, students from government, community, and faith-based schools will be required to pay 100,000 South Sudanese Pounds (SSP), equivalent to approximately $22.00 at the current exchange rate. Candidates from private schools will pay 150,000 SSP, or around $33.00.

Ikpiro stressed that only students who have completed the full eight years of primary education, or four years under the Accelerated Learning Program (ALP), will be eligible to sit for the exams. He instructed candidates to register using four full names, warning that registrations with only three names will be cancelled.

“Examination fees for public, community, and faith-based schools are 100,000 SSP, while private schools are charged 150,000 SSP per candidate,” Ikpiro said.

County education directors have been instructed to submit completed registration forms together with the fees by September 1, 2025. The Ministry also cautioned schools against charging extra fees beyond those officially announced.

The new fees mark a significant increase compared to 2024, when candidates from public schools paid 5,000 SSP ($1.09) and private school students paid 7,000 SSP ($1.52).

School Type 2024 Fee (SSP) 2024 Fee (USD) 2025 Fee (SSP) 2025 Fee (USD)
Public/Community/Faith-based 5,000 1.09 100,000 22.00
Private 7,000 1.52 150,000 33.00

The Ministry of Education said the revised fees aim to support the administration of the national examinations and ensure proper management of resources, while urging schools and parents to adhere strictly to the official charges.
