(MARIDI, WESTERN EQUATORIA) – The Don Bosco Mission in Maridi brought together members of its educational, healthcare, and pastoral teams on 26 July 2025 to celebrate Family Day under the theme “We are a family.” The event attracted around 170 participants from various mission departments and communities, with the aim of fostering unity and shared purpose among staff and collaborators.
Organised annually, Family Day serves as a moment for reflection and fellowship for those involved in the Salesian presence in South Sudan. This year’s gathering included Salesians, the Sisters of the Visitation of Don Bosco (VSDB), catechists, parish pastoral council members from Manguo and Manikakara, and staff from the Don Bosco Primary, Secondary, and Nursery Schools based in Manguo, Rastigi, and Manikakara.
Also in attendance were aspirants, boarding students, healthcare workers from the Don Bosco dispensary, and mission station leaders. Together, they formed a diverse group of contributors to the Don Bosco mission’s efforts across education, health, and evangelisation in the region.
The event focused on strengthening the spiritual and working relationships among team members and encouraging shared commitment to the Salesian values of community and service. It provided a platform for participants to reflect on the vision of the Don Bosco mission in South Sudan, especially as the country continues to recover from years of conflict and economic hardship.
In South Sudan, where many families and communities face daily challenges due to displacement, poverty, and limited access to basic services, initiatives like Family Day aim to offer a message of resilience and hope. The Don Bosco Mission in Maridi has remained a reliable support for young people and families in the region, offering education, health care, and spiritual guidance through an integrated community approach.
